Alpha Lewis: a sign of good business
Kaylah Joelle Baker

Creating unique and captivating signage is a high priority for the team at Alpha Lewis Signs, but it’s the business’s strong family values that continues to see it thrive.

At the heart and soul of the business are husband and wife, Paul and Kim Lewis, and their son Nic, all of whom are determined to continue to add years of service to the multi-generational family-owned business.

Started by Paul’s father John who was an experienced ticket writer, Alpha Lewis Signs was established in 1969 and has spanned three generations.

“We actually really love what we do, every day is so different, and we get to work with such a diverse group of people and businesses, and be surrounded by creativity,” Kim said.

Among its long list of custom services and products are wall graphics, banners and digitally printed signage, vehicle signage, 3D signage, lightboxes, neons and illuminated signage, window film and vinyl cut signage, directional and wayfinding signage, retail and corporate branding, and traditional signwriting and murals.

Signage consultancy is an additional service the Alpha Lewis team is also really promoting.

“It’s a really big thing we are pushing because there is a gap in the market of people knowing how to get their signage to where they want it,” Kim said.

The fun part of the job is we work backwards with them and deliver end to end signage solutions, and design, manufacture and install innovative signage that elevates their brand and message.

Examples of why dealing with a family business can be so special is seen through Alpha Lewis Signs’ long-standing relationships with a number of clients.

The company enjoys an ongoing partnership with North Melbourne Football Club, which it has supported with signage for the past 40 years, while it has also worked alongside the family-owned business Lombard The Paper People since 1984.

“Both North Melbourne Football Club and Lombard The Paper People are celebrating a long history, and we like to celebrate our longstanding relationship with them both and the fact that we are all still here after the last few years,” Kim said.

This dedication to providing a service and celebrating the achievements of clients was recognised by the City of Melbourne in 2021, with the business receiving a Lord Mayor’s Commendation.

Awarded a Silver Commendation for more than 25 years of business in the municipality during the pandemic was a “pretty amazing” achievement for Alpha Lewis Signs and served as a reminder that the work the team does matters.

“We have been around for a very long time, and so we come with a wealth of industry knowledge, experience and expertise, and we are family run which means the care factor runs deep,” Kim said.

“We are very passionate, caring, proactive and creative, and we offer a full service on a wide range, which is a big thing and quite unique.”

Alpha Lewis Signs can be found at 242 Dryburgh St, North Melbourne. •
