A two-year-old girl has died following a multi-vehicle crash in West Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, which involved four vehicles on Dynon Rd just before 4.30pm on June 17.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports the vehicles had collided.

Victoria Police said the two-year-old girl, who was travelling in one of the vehicles, died at the scene.

The driver of that vehicle, a 30-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Three passengers from the same vehicle, a 30-year-old woman, a four-year-old boy and an 11-month-old boy, were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of a second vehicle, a 40-year-old man, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 30-year-old woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of a third vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The driver and sole occupant of a fourth vehicle, a 62-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the investigation into the collision remained ongoing.
