Melbourne’s Rose Street Markets to launch at Kensington’s historic Younghusband
A vibrant new energy will take over Kensington on Saturday, February 15, as Melbourne’s renowned Rose Street Markets make their debut at the historic Younghusband precinct.
Established in 2003 by brothers Adam and Christian Ferrante, the Rose Street Markets in Fitzroy have long been a platform for creatives to showcase everything from eclectic furniture and stylish fashion to intricate jewellery and distinctive artwork.
Traditionally held on Rose St in Fitzroy, the monthly market has also popped up in iconic locations such as Queen Victoria Market and Lygon St, as well as National Trust sites like Como House in South Yarra.
Now, it will bring its signature stalls to Younghusband each month.
“We’re excited to bring our market to such an inspiring destination in Kensington that embodies the creativity, artistry, design, sustainability, innovation, and community that have always been an intrinsic part of the Rose Street ethos,” Mr Ferrante said.
Younghusband has recently undergone a major transformation, with partners Ivanhoe Cambridge, Built, and Irongate Group revitalising the 122-year-old heritage-listed former wool store into a premier CBD fringe location, incorporating office, retail, and community spaces.
Designed by acclaimed global architecture firm Woods Bagot, the redevelopment honours the site’s industrial roots, preserving signature elements like its striking red-brick façade while integrating modern upgrades.
From February, the Rose Street Markets will set up in Younghusband’s historic Bluestone laneway, hosting around 60 stallholders each month.
Visitors can expect a diverse selection of handcrafted goods, including art, ceramics, clothing, jewellery, accessories, and locally made products such as small-batch distilled gin and gourmet spreads.
The markets will take place from February to July, with scheduled dates on February 15, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 14, and July 19, 2025.
“This redevelopment has brought new life to one of Melbourne’s most significant historic landmarks, and we’re excited to launch the Rose Street Markets as part of our key focus on the local community,” Mr Ferrante said.
“The partnership felt like a natural fit due to our shared focuses on creativity, craftsmanship, and connection.”
