New mural unveiled at Queen Victoria Market
A new mural produced by Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation in collaboration with renowned Melbourne artist David Booth, who works under the pseudonym “Ghostpatrol” was unveiled at Queen Victoria Market on March 27.
“We are delighted to partner with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and Ghostpatrol to unveil this stunning mural. It reinforces our commitment to educating the community, especially young people, about the importance of healthy eating and the role the Market plays in providing access to quality, seasonal food,” Queen Victoria Market CEO Matt Elliott said.
Queen Victoria Market (QVM is Melbourne’s iconic landmark and city centre market, offering Australian fresh vegetables, fruit and gourmet food.
The spectacular mural marks the importance of connecting young people with fresh and healthy eating and developing the education of children around the joy of growing fresh food.
“QVM is a place where Melburnians connect with the best fresh produce our state has to offer,” Mr Elliott said.
More than 10,000 students visit the market annually for school trips and informal visits, making the mural a powerful and engaging educational tool within its bustling environment.
The mural was created with the help of students from Debney Meadows Primary School (Flemington), and pays tribute to the partnership between the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and VicHealth to give children at more than 500 Victorian schools a positive relationship with fresh and healthy food.
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation has been working for 20 years to develop awareness of fresh food and healthy eating for Australian children and young people.
As a not-for-profit organisation, it supports communities and educators across Australia to advance the vision of inspiring young minds to embrace fresh food.
“I am absolutely thrilled to see this joyful mural come to life at QVM,” Stephanie Alexander said.
“It perfectly captures the spirit of our work – connecting children with the source of their food and instilling a lifelong love of fresh, delicious produce. To see the students’ woven into the artwork is truly inspiring.”
At the same time, the foundation has a deep tie to the mural artist Ghostpatrol.

“I love taking kids’ rough, honest sketches and turning them into something big and bold,” Ghostpatrol said.
The playful characteristic in his artwork blends different themes of place, culture and sustainability, and he enjoys the process of mural creation where young people use their imagination to add any creative sketch.
This new mural, in collaboration with Ghostpatrol, showcases the cornerstone of Melbourne’s food culture.
People can find the mural at the Market’s A Shed, facing Victoria St.
