The Parkville Gardens Residents’ Association (PGRA) hosted its Biggest Morning Tea on Sunday, May 21, raising $904 for Cancer Council Australia, despite facing persistent rain and cold weather.

Held at Cade Square, the event saw more than 60 people come together, with more than 15 volunteers on hand with baked goods made specially for the occasion.

Ajith Vasanthakumar has been organising the event for three years, but said the events wouldn’t be possible without the support of the volunteers.

“The Biggest Morning Tea in Parkville Gardens wouldn’t be possible without my amazing neighbours who are always there to bake or brew or just lend a helping hand,” he said.

“It is their enthusiasm that drives me to organise this event year after year. My special shout out to Kelly and Nishma who did most of the work behind the scenes and of course to my lovely neighbours who baked and braved the weather to turn up on a cold Sunday morning.”

“I feel these events are multifaceted as it highlights not just the spirit of fundraising but also a great sense of community and belonging.” •
