We’ve got a spring in our step here in Parkville Gardens. We’re gearing up for some great get-togethers.

First up is the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Parkville Gardens Residents’ Association (PGRA). All local residents are welcome.

It’s a once-a-year opportunity to meet with the PGRA team and fellow residents, hear about our endeavours, and have your say about the neighbourhood.

If you’re not a member yet, join up on the night and get the right to vote! You could even put your hand up to become a member of the committee – new blood is always welcome.

Come to the Reggio Calabria Club on Thursday, September 21 in time for a 6.30pm start.  We aim to be well finished by 7.30pm so we can enjoy a moderately priced meal in the bistro. Come along!

Next up is our Quiz Night and Community Dinner. This will be fabulous fun – don’t miss it.

It will be a great night out with neighbours and friends. The cost is minimal, thanks to our Community Events Grant from the City of Melbourne – just $20 for friends and non-members, and even less for members, only $15!  It’s a small price to pay for a lot of fun.

We’d love to see some tables of international students joining in the conviviality and the competition. It kicks off with dinner at 7pm on Thursday, October 5 at the Reggio Calabria Club.

Just one thing to note … this is for the grown-ups. See you there!

There’s more to come later in October. PGRA has been granted funding by the Victorian Education Department for a children’s event on the morning of Sunday, October 29. It will be another “Amazing (not really a) Race” event that was such a success last year. Details to follow in next month’s column …

In the meantime, the first residents are about to move in to Housing First’s accommodation tower at the south end of Galada Ave.

Filling the whole building is expected to take a few months. All up there’ll be some 300 new people living in the neighbourhood.

Housing First will team up with the City of Melbourne to introduce them to the area. They’re planning a Family Fair for the community on Saturday, October 28.

Right now, Frasers Property is conducting a Neighbourhood Survey of people living in Parkside Parkville – that’s all the buildings along Cade Way and Galada Ave that back on to CityLink.

Residents who participate will go into the draw for a $500 Prezee Gift Voucher, and for each participant Frasers will donate $10 to the Australian Red Cross. We hope the survey will produce a wealth of information.

Note those dates: 6.30pm Thursday, September 21 for the AGM, and 7pm Thursday, October 5 for the Quiz Night and Dinner.

We look forward to your company. •
