Rosso Coffee Experience: redefining coffee culture in North Melbourne

Rosso Coffee Experience is more than just your local café; Ramez Abdulnour and his team are pioneering a fresh approach to coffee that goes beyond merely serving your daily brew.

Located in the heart of North Melbourne, Rosso Coffee Experience opened as the flagship store and roastery for the brand in November last year, with satellite espresso bars situated in Flinders Lane and Collins St in the CBD.

The North Melbourne site has been transformed into an industrial-style café, offering an exceptional variety of food, outstanding coffee, and hands-on experience.

“The inspiration was for our hospitality and our approach to coffee to be more central and have an interactive space with the public so they could have a go at making some coffee and get amongst it,” owner Ramez said.

After leaving the corporate world to establish his own coffee brand, Ramez takes great pride in the role of coffee in uniting people.

Under the Rosso brand, which has been operating for the past 18 years, he and his team have crafted three unique espresso blends tailored to different tastes: The Commuter, The Governor, and The Bohemian.

At the North Melbourne location, locals can participate in interactive sessions at the make-your-own-coffee bar, where you’ll learn how to brew coffee just the way you like it with the help of skilled baristas.

Visitors can also explore Rosso’s on-site roastery, where they can see the transformation of raw green coffee beans into fragrant specialty brews through their new offering of masterclasses with their expert roaster.

Chef Michael Bernerger Kevin leads the culinary offerings, with delightful dishes from chorizo chilli folded eggs and banana flour pancakes to hot buttered lobster rolls and Middle Eastern fritters.

“I’ve had my eyes on North and West Melbourne for the last seven years, it’s amazing being there,” Ramez told North West City News.

“It’s a really humble and supportive community and they appreciate good quality; they’ve responded really well.”

In line with Ramez’s vision of creating a space for learning and connection, the community is invited to a free Single Origin cupping session on October 19, where you will learn about the different varietals and flavours of your coffee. •
