Simonds Catholic College unveils new STEM Centre 

Simonds Catholic College is proud to announce the opening of its new, state-of-the-art STEM Centre, designed to provide students with an innovative and modern learning environment equipped with advanced resources.

Set to officially launch in 2025, the STEM Centre is now open for use, offering a range of new facilities, including dedicated physics, chemistry, and biology labs. 

The space will serve both junior and senior students, creating a dynamic hub for STEM, which is short for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.

The STEM Centre also represents a significant milestone following the unification of the school’s campuses in 2023. 

“It’s been two years of pretty hard work and toil, but the dream has finally been fulfilled,” Simonds College principal Robert Anastasio said.

The Centre boasts advanced laboratories, specialty-specific equipment, and collaborative workspaces, featuring the latest technology to support a hands-on, future-focused curriculum.

While Simonds has been partnering with the Science Gallery to enhance students’ learning experiences, the new on-campus facilities will allow students to engage with high-tech equipment without leaving the school grounds.

However, Mr Anastasio aims to maintain the relationship with the Science Gallery, enriching the educational experience with occasional excursions for more specialised activities. 

“The partnership with Science Gallery has been pioneering. We were the first school to have a program with them, and we hope to continue that tradition,” he said.

In addition to the science labs, the new facility also includes a dedicated decking area and a common room for Year 11 and 12 students. 

These spaces are designed to foster a university-like atmosphere, helping students transition from school to higher education and preparing them for the future.

The members of the student leadership team were among the first to tour the new STEM Centre, with the broader Simonds community eager to fully embrace this new chapter in the college’s journey. •
