North Melbourne institution The Leveson is celebrating a major milestone, taking home a City of Melbourne business award in recognition of 21 years serving the local community.

Nestled in the heart of Leveson St, the beloved pub has become a fixture for locals and visitors alike, known for its laid-back atmosphere, hearty food, and warm hospitality.

While the ownership has evolved over the years, The Leveson has remained a constant community hub.

Its recent accolade, awarded in the “20-plus years” category, honours long-standing businesses that have made a meaningful impact in the city.

Owner John Fox will attend the awards ceremony on July 24, a night that will bring together business leaders, community members, and organisers to celebrate excellence across the municipality.

“We’ve had really good staff and chefs over the years, and very loyal customers. Some of their kids work here now too. It’s been really family-orientated,” John said.

Much of The Leveson’s enduring popularity lies in its versatility.

The venue boasts multiple function spaces, a restaurant, and a spacious courtyard with a retractable roof – making it a destination in both summer and winter.

The pub has also just launched its winter menu and continues to draw crowds during the week with themed nights.

“Tuesday nights we have curry night, Wednesday’s steak night is really popular, and Thursday parma night has become a bit of a cult – it’s probably getting busier than Fridays,” John told North West City News.

Looking ahead, the pub is preparing for a packed events calendar, with major days like the AFL Grand Final and the festive season already drawing attention.

“It’s nice to have that recognition after being here so long in the community,” John said.

“We’ve made some great friendships, and we’re lucky to be part of such a supportive area.”

Whether it’s a casual midweek meal or a lively celebration, The Leveson continues to be a cherished part of North Melbourne’s fabric – 21 years strong and counting.
