Your North & West Melbourne Precinct

Your North & West Melbourne Precinct

We are thrilled to introduce you to the North & West Melbourne Precinct Association (NWMPA), a volunteer-led organisation consisting of passionate local business owners who champion the precinct and local businesses.

Our mission is to enable a thriving local economy by promoting and supporting our community’s businesses.

During the past 12 months, NWMPA has been busy organising several successful events, including the “Spin To Win” competition, which ran alongside the “Dance This Way” festival as part of the City of Melbourne’s City Activation Grant. The competition incentivised customers to shop locally, and more than 50 participating businesses joined in, making it a resounding success.

During the festive season, we organised 10 days of fun, including live music, entertainment, a visit by Santa, Christmas raffle prizes, and free “Aussie Christmas”-themed gift wrapping (designed by the clever member Fabric Drawer) with purchases from local retailers.

We have seen also seen a great response the local community for the launch of the “Roundtable”, an initiative from our member Common and partner Enlocus, proudly supported by the City Activation Grants program.

We’re proud to announce that NWMPA collaborated with the City of Melbourne on a greening trial along Errol St, something that the community had been requesting for years. The trial aimed to gather feedback from residents and business owners on the temporary tree placements, with the hope of implementing a permanent greening solution along Errol St.

During the past few months, our business members were interviewed by a digital marketing expert, accompanied by a professional photographer who beautifully captured the people behind the businesses. The interviews helped us create a series of Trader Profiles aimed at increasing their SEO ranking and exposure on social media. You can help support by visiting our website or socials and watch as they emerge.

We have partnered with industry-leading experts, The Digital Picnic, to provide free social media training to NWMPA members, with non-members welcome to attend by joining NWMPA for just $60 for 12 months. Join us at the end of March for two half-day sessions. This training is valued at more than $1000, so please RSVP. We’ve also planned a series of workshops and networking events for the coming months, including gin masterclasses, where members are encouraged to make their own gin with selected botanicals with the master behind “Here’s Looking at You Kid Spirits”.

There is an adult drama workshop with Lisa-Marie Parker Vocal Studio, owner of Kid’s Division, an event where business owners can let their hair down and their inner child out (yes, there may be wine involved!).

These workshops are not only educational but also enjoyable opportunities for members to network and connect with fellow local business owners.

At NWMPA, we believe that we all share a passion for this distinctive corner of Melbourne and its people. We encourage all businesses to join our community and help each other thrive. Our funding is based on each membership, and renewals are due by the end of March.

We’re excited to have you on board and look forward to working to achieve our mission of promoting a thriving local economy. •
