Community to have its say on new North Melbourne Community Centre
A draft design for the new North Melbourne Community Centre is expected to be endorsed for community consultation by City of Melbourne councillors at the Future Melbourne Committee meeting on September 10.
The new centre will be located at the current site of the Jean McKendry Neighbourhood Centre (JMNC) at 91-115 Melrose St.
Youth, family and ageing services will be co-located in the new five-level, 3000sqm building, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all generations.
Other features of the proposed design include an outdoor welcome ground, a rooftop terrace and garden, bookable meeting rooms, a commercial-grade kitchen, prayer and reflection rooms, and accessible toilets.
The designs propose retaining the existing JMNC hall.
Recreation facilities like the gym, basketball and futsal courts will stay at the current North Melbourne Community Centre at Buncle Reserve.
Residents will get the chance to have their say on the draft design for the new centre from October 28. •
