Council seeks local voices to advise on West Melbourne housing project
The City of Melbourne is calling for expressions of interest to join a project reference group that will provide advice on a proposed affordable housing development on a council-owned car park in West Melbourne.
In August the council resolved to lease the site at 325-341 Victoria St for the purposes of creating new opportunities for affordable housing in the municipality.
The council said that members of the project reference group would provide community input into the council’s decision-making, as well as insights into community values, local conditions, priorities, concerns and preferred design outcomes.
This will include developing a set of “community assessment principles” to inform the selection of a community housing provider to build and manage the project.
The council had also originally proposed leasing another car park at 44-60 Curzon St in North Melbourne for affordable housing but deferred it until the Victoria St site was completed and its impact assessed amid significant local concerns.
Expressions of interest for the reference group are open until 1pm on Monday, December 23 via Participate Melbourne. •
