Good news to report from Parkville Gardens
The season has officially come and gone but there are still bright splashes of autumn colour here and there in Parkville Gardens. They make a cheerful complement to the evergreens that predominate.
There’s cheery news to report as well. The Parkville Gardens Residents’ Association (PGRA) has been successful in securing a solid grant from the City of Melbourne for community engagement in the 2025-26 financial year.
Thanks to the council and to its neighbourhood partner for Parkville Nas Mohammad for her support! We can now proceed with planning a spring event and our AGM. More on those in due course.
While our application for funding from Greater Western Water didn’t win the day, we’re grateful for last year’s grant that made our March Neighbours’ Day event such a great community celebration.
There’s more good news … thanks to the 2024-25 grant from the City of Melbourne, we’re holding a Winter Social on the evening of Thursday, June 26 at the Reggio Calabria Club.
Parkville Gardens residents, check your letterbox for a flyer with the QR code for booking. You can look forward to a convivial evening of conversation, pizza, and a stirring presentation on “Discovering Royal Park” from a couple of the dedicated Friends of Royal Park. Places are limited, so once you book, please make sure you come.
The City of Melbourne has collated responses to the Pedestrian and Road Safety Survey conducted in the neighbourhood during March and April. They’ve compiled a list of more than 30 possible improvements such as speed humps, pedestrian crossings, line markings and a one-way section. They’re now keen to get feedback on these proposals.
Locals, please have your say. Go to participate.melbourne.vic.gov.au/road-safety-parkville-gardens and get your reply in by Friday, July 4.
In the meantime, the sealed pathway around the Galada Ave Reserve has been renewed and resealed. More thanks to the council!
Everyone’s encouraged to complete this year’s Victoria Police Community Sentiment Survey. Go to engage.vic.gov.au/vicpol-2025 and respond by June 30.
Our efforts to get the state government to fulfil its original promise of a community centre for Parkville Gardens will continue in spite of its latest dismissal by the Minister for Housing and Building Harriet Shing. We will persist.
The chilly days of winter are a sharp reminder to make sure your flu and COVID vaccinations up to date. Stay safe and well. •
