Up-and-coming rapper shot at North Melbourne rave
Police searched for gunman after a 20-year-old rapper died from gunshot wounds at a Halloween-themed rave in North Melbourne.
Emergency services were called to Langford St near Macaulay Station in North Melbourne at about 3.15am on Saturday November 2 following reports that a man was seriously injured after being shot.
The victim has been identified as Pal Bidong, an up-and-coming rapper known as Peezy in Melbourne’s drill music scene.
At a press conference held later on Saturday morning, Victoria Police Acting Detective Inspector Alan Rumble said, “It’s a horrific incident. It’s something that none of us wanted to experience – police or the local community.”
“A lot of specialist resources have been allocated, including local police,” he said.
“Our real goal here today is to follow down and identify all avenues of inquiry and ensure that the victim’s family are supported at this horrible time.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this stage.
At 3.15am, a CCTV camera inside a nearby building captured audio of loud screaming, after which police sirens could be heard in the distance.
Acting Det. Insp. Rumble said that “emotions were high” in the area after the man’s death, with Nine News vision showing fights breaking out in the streets near where the body was found.
Macaulay Rd remained closed between Boundary Rd in North Melbourne and Stubbs St in Kensington while investigators took photos along Langford St.
The man’s body was removed from the scene at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon. •
